PEN International at the Frankfurt Book Fair
On October 12, 2011, John Ralston Saul, President of International PEN, will participate in the discussion about education, book markets and international dialogue at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, and John Saul will have speeches at the Opening Ceremony dedicated to Education, Literature & Non-Fiction, Translation and International Dialogue.
John Ralston Saul was one of twenty two international authors who were involved in the "Letters to Europe" initiative based on the project "Shahrzad – Stories for Life". A selection of letters, written in sixteen languages, will be on display in the Weltempfang area of the fair, and close the program of events.
On September 23, Mr. John, teamed up with the Literature Nobel Laureates Mario Vargas Llosa and Herta Müller, made a critical speech at the manifestation ceremony for David Isaak at Gothenburg Book Fair 2011.
This year PEN International, worldwide association of writers promoting literature and defending freedom of expression, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
