Strindberg site – to be set up soon
January 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary since August Strindberg's death. Besides the celebration of the author's achievements, the Arts Council will hold events throughout the next year.
On December 1, the Council will present www.strindberg2012.se site – the calendar of annual events surrounding the author, which are to be held around Sweden. The site has been created by the Arts Council in cooperation with the Stockholm authorities, the Swedish Institute and the Stockholm City Theatre.
Including many other recordings, Radio Theatre will broadcast fifty plays by the author from Café Klara of the Stockholm's City Theatre, played every Sunday of the coming year.
Strindberg's achievements will be recognized and appreciated not only in Sweden.
In the US, American academics and theater personnel has created www.strindbergfestival.com and Harvard University will hold a special Strindberg Symposium in the spring of 2012.
Another corresponding symposium is to be held at the Paris Sorbonne University, and play "Miss Julie", put up in Avignon last summer, is now touring to London, where Juliette Binoche, known from Lasse Hallstrom's "Chocolat", is performing the leading role.
