Scotiabank Giller Prize to Esi Edugyan
In November 2011, Esi Edugyan was named the year's winner of Scotiabank Giller Prize for her novel "Half-Blood Blues".
Esi led the shortlist of six authors, winning the largest Canadian literary award that earned her $50,000. The finalists, who received $5,000 each, are:
David Bezmozgis (novel THE FREE WORLD)
Lynn Coady (novel THE ANTAGONIST)
Patrick deWitt (novel THE SISTERS BROTHERS)
Esi Edugyan (novel HALF-BLOOD BLUES)
Zsuzsi Gartner (short story collection BETTER LIVING THROUGH PLASTIC EXPLOSIVES)
Michael Ondaatje (novel THE CAT'S TABLE)
"…Her style is deceptively conversational and easy, but with the simultaneous exuberance and discipline of a true prodigy. Put this book next to Louis Armstrong's "West End Blues" – these two works of art belong together," the jury wrote about the winning book.
