Literary award to "The sisters brothers”
The novel by Patrick DeWitt earned him Governor General's Literary Award 2011 in fiction carrying $25,000.
Describing two gun slinging bothers en route to California in the 1850s, this book had already become the winner of Roger Writers' Trust Fiction Prize accompanied by $25,000 and nominated for the Man Booker Prize and the Scotia Giller.
The GG jury called The Sisters Brothers "a rollicking tale of hired guns, faithful horses and alchemy,'' and added that the author's ingenious prose "conveys a dark and gentle touch".
Governor General of Canada —His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, accompanied by his wife Her Excellency Sharon Johnston, presented the 2011 Governor General's Literary Awards at the ceremony at Rideau Hall, on November 24, 2011.
The English and French awards, presented by Canada Council for the Arts, celebrate Canadian authors in seven categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, children's literature (text and illustration) and translation.
