Dagerman Prize goes to Nawal El Saadawi

Nawal El Saadawi, Egyptian author, became the Stig Dagermanm Prize winner. The author will receive the prize carrying 50,000 SEK for her work identical in nature with that of Dagerman's.

Born in 1931, writer and doctor Nawal El Saadawi has worked for human rights in Egypt throughout her life, and played an active role in the struggle for democracy during the Arabian revolution in 2011.

Nawal visited the Göteborg Book Fair in 2010, when African literature and writers were on focus, and now won the Stig Dagerman Society Prize for her ongoing fight for human liberation.
"The Stolen" is the novel by her about the everyday oppression against women in Egyptian society that Nawal published in Swedish in 2010.
Stig Dagermanm Prize has been awarded since 1996. The ceremony will take place in June at Laxön in Älvkarleby.
