EU Ministerial meeting on the Debate Stage at the Book Fair 2009

The Swedish EU minister Cecilia Malmström, who was recently named the new EU Commissioner from Sweden, participated in the Göteborg Book Fair 2009 in a EU ministerial debate on the Debate Stage.

'Six months in the EU driving seat' was the theme when Cecilia Malmström, the Spanish EU minister Diego López Garrido and the Spanish EU politician Barbara Dührkop discussed the challenges of leading the EU during the EU presidency.

The Debate Stage, which is the Book Fair's Friday stage for current events, started in 2008 and was an immediate success. The 2009 stage hosted debates on such varied subjects as the freedom of information laws, gender norms in art, file sharing, threats against politicians, wolf hunts, life-sustaining treatment, attack journalism and personal integrity. Look out for the Debate Stage again in 2010!
